Strawberries are here!  We really look forward to strawberry season and heading out to pick pounds and pounds of strawberries.  We’ve made two trips out to u-pick farms so far and have made some jam and frozen some whole berries.  Our usual u-pick farm raised their prices to $9/bucket (approx $1.50/pound), which is still a great price compared to store bought berries and the flavor and quality is far better.  Since we are pretty broke right now, I decided to try a new farm, which I saw advertised in our local paper.  They have strawberries for $.25/pound.  We went out today and the picking was much harder and slower due to hail damaged berries and many over-ripe and molding ones.  However, it was worth it.  We picked 19 pounds of berries for only $5.75!  So, more jam making and freezing berries is in store for today.

They look yummy! Are we still going to be able to go pick some while I am up there? I will be more than happy to contribute some $ to it so we can all go pick some. I have been looking forward to it.

Oh I am glad you posted this…I have been wanting to ask you for a comparison…if the $.25/lb place was worth it. now to find some time to go picking 🙂

Hmm. It’s showing as strawberries for me. I wonder if your browsing needs to be refreshed.

That’s so weird! I refreshed and it’s still scoby. Oh, well, I do know what strawberries look like ;).
