For the Love of Chipotle

You all may remember my love of chipotle sauce if you remember my weird egg sandwich combination. That is really the only time I eat chipotle sauce. We do go through a fair amount even with only consuming it on eggs. The Tabasco brand of chipotle sauce isn’t cheap. A small bottle, maybe four ounces, is about $3.50. A month ago, or more, I bought a can of chipotles in adobo sauce, figuring that I would try to replicate the sauce. I got intimidated for a while, but last week I finally attempted it. I got the whole can of chipotles, added a dash of sucanat (unrefined sugar), some salt, a bit of garlic powder, a few splashes of white vinegar and kept adding water to achieve the right consistency. I turned the blender on and blended that sauce until it was saucy, though I found out that it was still a bit too thick, because I poured it into the original Tabasco bottle and it is having a hard time coming out through the little hole in the plastic cover. For the price of a can of chipotles (I can’t remember, but I think it was $1.69), some spices and vinegar I ended up getting a little more than two cups of sauce. I think it is as good as the Tabasco brand, though the flavor was slightly different and Lawrence thinks it is better than the Tabasco brand.

    Oh that sounds great! Mike and I love chipotle sauce on a lot of different things. When I make nachos, I like to shake it over the top of them. Could you do me a favor if you have time? Could you type it up like a recipe and e-mail it to me so I can print it out? I only pay about $2.58 per bottle but I would rather make it myself and refill bottles. I keep one at work and one at home.

    Good googly moogly! I love, love, LOVE that stuff! It is addicting!

    The kids love to mix it with ranch dressing and dip chicken wings in it (though I make my own ranch; I refuse to by the crap full of chemicals) and they scarf it down!

    Mom-I can type it up, but it will be more of an ingredients list than a recipe, because I just eyeballed it.

    Mysti-That homemade ranch dressing sounds yummy.
