On the Other Hand

November 25, 2007

My week wasn’t all bad and I’m going to optimistically focus on the good of this week and maybe, just maybe this coming week will be better.

  • Lawrence was home for Thanksgiving.
  • My damaged friendship was salvaged a bit. We are still going to be internet friends. I’m glad for this compromise.
  • We had last minute Thanksgiving arrangements and ended up having another family over for dinner, dessert and a rousing game of Scrabble. It was a wonderful, special time. We have gotten out of the habit of inviting people over for holidays because at that time of the year it seems that everybody has family close by or traditions. It was a nice coincidence that my friends also don’t have family close by and they didn’t go to their family and their family didn’t come up, so they were in the same boat as we were. We all benefited from it.
  • We had a primarily local foods Thanksgiving, including venison, which I’ve never tried before.
  • I made pumpkin pie filling from scratch using pie pumpkins from Oakhill Organics.
  • The pie has freshly whipped cream on it.
  • We received a large payment from a customer two weeks earlier than we had been expecting it, making our finances a bit more comfortable.
  • We sponsored a family this year for Christmas and are purchasing gifts for the three children and a grocery card or something for the whole family. We did some of our shopping yesterday.
  • Isabel is on the cusp of learning to read. She has the motivation now as she can see it is within her grasp and is sounding out small words.
  • My new shoes came in the mail.
  • I got some great online deals on some cloth potty-training pants for at night for Juliana, she pees almost every night if she is wearing a disposable because she can’t feel the wetness, so doesn’t mind it; she mostly stays dry in her cloth diapers but they are now uncomfortable for her because she is growing out of them.
  • I made concentrated (not quite demiglace) stocks from the turkey carcass and the venison bones. I got almost a pint from each.
  • I got my half pork and it seems to have a beautiful ham that we will cook up for Christmas.

It seems like I’m missing a few good things, but this is a pretty decent list.

This coming week looks like it has some good potential based on the activities we already have planned, so I’m saying a little prayer to have a better one.

That’s really sweet of you Yolanda. I may take you up on your offer and email you sometime. Things are getting pretty hectic now, but I will try not to forget!

I am glad you are doing somewhat better. I guess I was worried about you because I had a dream that David and I went up to visit you all and Isabel had a really severe bowl cut haircut that was really adorable and Juliana was HUGE (which I’m sure she is by now) and Maddy was like a teenager.

A-You’re so sweet to worry about me. I’m fine now. I do wish you and David would come and visit us though!
