A Bag of Fall Flavor

November 7, 2007

Yesterday was the first day of our fall share with Oakhill Organics. Since it has been almost a month since farmers market ended, I was so happy to go pick up some very fresh produce.

Here is a list of the lovelies that we got:

  • A bag of fingerling potatoes
  • A bunch of carrots
  • A bunch of swiss chard (unfortunately we have tons in the garden, I would have liked to have something else, but that is part of the adventure of a CSA share)
  • Two leeks
  • A butternut squash (we had a choice between a butternut and buttercup)
  • One large yellow onion
  • One large red onion
  • One celeriac (I have to admit that I’ve never cooked with this root before, hmm, what should I make?)
  • A bag of salad greens (we had a choice between a bag of salad greens or two head of butter lettuce)

I am having a few days of single motherhood because Lawrence is staying out at the coast to cut down on commute time and make more productive work time. We will probably take this opportunity to cook some meals that he doesn’t really care for but we love. I’m thinking mac and cheese will factor in one night-homemade, of course.

    Wonderful looking produce.
I bet it will also be a lot less tiring for him than driving back and forth each day.

It sure is. He is also loving the constant sound of the surf.
