Have you been wondering what I’ve been up to besides revamping my blog?

We did some fun stuff last week with my dad and stepmom: the zoo, the coast-specifically the Tillamook Cheese Factory, the Spruce Goose museum and just hanging out and having fun with the girls, including a four hour stint at two local parks on their gorgeous last day. The weather was perfect for a day at the park and the girls just soaked up the sun and converted it into energy. Their train ride up was spectacular and it has inspired us to train travel in the future.

This week I have:

  • ordered a new DVD player because our old one is on it’s last legs
  • gone to a consult with our orthodontist and gotten the price tag for Maddy’s braces-have any of you shopped for braces lately? Yikes, it’s pricey. I briefly considered going back to work for Dr. B, our dentist and my former employer, just to get the professional courtesy discount.
  • saw several large limbs that spontaneously break off and fall from a huge tree across the street from us. I hope it’s not dying because I’m not sure it wouldn’t hit our house if it fell. The first one broke off yesterday afternoon and another one must have gone sometime in the night because the city maintenance crew woke us up at 4:00am with their chainsaws. They probably wouldn’t have done preventive cutting that early, right?
  • discovered a sinfully yummy Mexican bakery a mere seven blocks from our house. Bad, bad, bad.
  • finished my third batch of kombucha and got two baby scobies out of this one
  • continued harvesting from my garden:

Tomorrow we will be going to a wedding. It should be fun. It’s the guy that Lawrence did the artistic wave fence for back in March. N. is a very nice guy. His fiance, A., is wonderful. You may remember that we went to a party they were having in the late spring and Isabel decided that A. was her new best friend. I think she has a thing for A. ladies, don’t you Adriana and Angelina? N. and A. are neo hippies and they are having a potluck wedding. The invitation implores us to come in any costume we wish. Does this mean a costume party or just wear what you want? N. and Lawrence really clicked when Lawrence was doing their fence. N. his dad a few years ago and I think that he looks to Lawrence as kind of an older brother who can understand his situation because he faced similar issues not that long ago. He calls Lawrence every so often to ask him for advice. It’s quite endearing really. Lawrence has that effect on a lot of people. N. and A. are really idealistic and unique people. I really enjoy chatting with them, N. especially. With how many people can you discuss the merits and downfalls of humanure? I will leave you to ponder that question.
