I haven’t yet told you all about a new endeavor some families from our homeschool group are embarking upon. We are starting a learning co-op. Talk about this started in late spring and we had been on the lookout for a rental house when a fortuitous situation was presented to us. A fixer-upper on 200 acres of land rent free for one year if we get it cleaned up, make minor repairs and take care of it while we are using it. So, after discussing the pros and cons, we have decided to jump on it. The rental contract should be signed this week. There are about 9 families involved. We have full use of the 200 acres which includes fruit trees and a barn. We will start cleaning it up in the next week or so. This will be a big undertaking as the house has been empty for two years and the plant material around it has not really been well-maintained for probably as long. It will require lots of elbow grease and lots of brush and bush removal.

However, when we get it up and running it should be a fabulous resource for our families. We have a lot of talent in our parents like hand-dying and spinning fiber, web designing, music, baking, genealogy. The barn is already being scoped out for a garage band and we have a pottery wheel that will be at the house. We will also probably grow a large garden and experiment with cob building. We are all really excited about it.
