December 8, 2004

So, I have made the acquaintance of a native New Mexican living about 45 minutes from us. I met her on the previously mentioned statewide homeschool group. There are actually quite a few of us former New Mexicans in these parts and we began reminiscing about the lack of sopapillas, Hatch green chile and all the other New Mexican food that is impossible to get here.

This led to an invitation to get together and make…tamales! Yum. I usually make a small batch of tamales for us for Christmas Eve. Although there isn’t a whole lot I miss about NM, one of the things I really do miss is the food. So, hopefully we will have a tamale-making party before Christmas. The girls and I are making biscochitos today. What are the holidays without them??

Now, if only luminarias would stand up to our Oregon rain!
